FAST LAX: Gameplay and Tournament Rules

Gameplay:

• All standard NFHS and US Lacrosse rules apply.
• Sanctioned New Jersey Lacrosse referees will officiate all games.
• Penalties are time-serving and last 30 seconds.
• All field players participate in both offense and defense.
• Substitutions occur on the fly through the sideline at midfield.
• Games begin with a faceoff, with all players lined up behind the goal line on either side of the field. After each goal, the goalie retrieves the ball and play resumes with a clear.
• Each game is 15 minutes long, with 3 minutes between games. A central clock will manage game timing. If a game starts late due to injury or other unforeseen circumstances, the time between games will be reduced to 1 minute, and playoff games may be shortened if necessary.
• Goalies cannot cross midfield without a player staying back (“middie back” rule).
• 2-Point Line: Shots from outside 15 yards count for 2 points.

Team Formation:

• Teams consist of a goalie and 4 field players on the field.
• 1 long pole is allowed on the field at a time.
• Recommended team size is 8 players, but rosters can have 6-10 players.
• NJLT will provide sideline coaches for teams without one. NJLT staff will assist with gameplay and strategy but will not actively coach the teams.
• Goalies may play for multiple teams in case of injury.
• All players must have a white/colored reversible jersey with a number.

Tournament Rules:

• Each team will play a minimum of 4 pool play games. The top 4 teams after pool play will advance to the playoffs.
• If a game ends in a tie, a 2-minute golden goal round will be played, starting with a faceoff. If no goal is scored, the game will be decided by a 1v1 “braveheart” match.
• In case of a tie in team records after pool play, rankings in Tourney Machine will determine which teams move to the playoffs.

Fast Lax teams competing with a minimum of 7 players per team including a goalie.  In the event of a goalie injury, teams can share goalies to keep the tournament moving.

Individual players registered will be added to a house team to play and compete in the event.
