PASSING AND CATCHING
Set up two players facing each other about 10-15 feet apart. One player passes the ball to the other, who catches it and immediately passes it back. Emphasize quick and accurate passes. Vary the types of passes (overhand, sidearm, underhand) and practice catching with both hands.
2-on-1 FAST BREAK
Set up two offensive players and one defender. The offensive players attempt to score while the defender tries to prevent them. This drill helps players practice decision-making in fast-break situations and improves passing, shooting, and defensive skills.
3-on-2 TRANSITION DRILL
GROUND BALL BATTLE
Place several lacrosse balls on the floor in a small area. Divide players into two teams and have them battle to retrieve the balls. This drill simulates the chaos of ground ball situations during games and helps players improve their ground ball skills and tenacity.
MAN-DOWN DEFENSE DRILL
Set up a power play situation with five offensive players against four defenders. This drill helps the defensive players practice communication, positioning, and sliding to cover the open player..
SHOOTING ON GOALIE DRILL
Have players take shots on a goalie, focusing on different shooting techniques such as overhand shots, sidearm shots, and quick-release shots. Goalies can work on their positioning, reaction time, and shot-stopping skills.
BOX PICK AND ROLL DRILL
This drill involves an offensive player setting a pick for a teammate with the ball. The ball carrier uses the pick to create space and either takes a shot or passes to the open teammate. The defenders practice switching and communicating to defend against the pick and roll effectively.
DEFENSIVE FOOTWORK DRILL
Set up cones in a zigzag pattern and have defenders practice footwork and body positioning while shadowing an offensive player. This helps improve defensive agility, positioning, and anticipation.
Divide players into smaller teams (3v3, 4v4) to play in a confined space. Small-sided games emphasize quick decision-making, ball movement, and teamwork.
TRANSITION CONDITIONING DRILL
Have players run through various transition scenarios, alternating between offense and defense quickly. This drill improves players’ conditioning, decision-making under pressure, and ability to transition between different phases of the game.
