NJLT Club Team Divisions

Roots Division (Grades 3-5)

Our youngest players focus on developing fundamental skills and a foundational understanding of team play.

  • Stick Skills: Consistent passing/catching with the dominant hand, developing the non-dominant hand.
  • On-the-Move Play: Mastering movement while passing, catching, shooting, and picking up ground balls.
  • Defensive Awareness: Understanding on-ball defense and off-ball support.
  • Offensive Awareness: Learning how to create space, recognize cutting opportunities, and execute dodges or shots.
  • Tournament Play: Competes in 3 summer and 2 fall tournaments.

Evolution Division (Grades 6-8)

As players progress into middle school, they refine their technical skills and develop a deeper understanding of team strategy.

  • Advanced Stick Skills: Strong proficiency with both hands—passing, catching, dodging, and shooting on the move.
  • Team Defense Concepts: Understanding defensive rotations, sliding to the ball, and recovering properly.
  • Team Offense Concepts: Recognizing when to dodge, when to pass, how to execute offensive rotations, and beginning to incorporate two-man game play (both on and off the ball).
  • Game Situations: Gaining awareness of special situations, including substitutions, when to push in transition, when to settle the ball, and when to press or sink on defense.
  • Play in 4 summer and 2 fall tournaments

Elite Division (Grades 9-12)

At the high school level, players are expected to perform with confidence, speed, and intelligence, preparing them for elite competition.

  • Mastery of Stick Skills: Passing and catching with both hands is second nature. Players demonstrate advanced stick handling, including passing from multiple levels, catching difficult passes, and shooting with variety.
  • High-Level Decision Making: Quick, accurate decision-making is essential in high-pressure, fast-paced competition. Players must process the game instinctively, without hesitation.
  • Game IQ & Situational Awareness: Understanding the strategic nuances of the game, such as using the substitution box for an advantage, executing face-offs efficiently, and managing man-up/man-down situations with tactical awareness.
  • Plays in 5 summer and 2 fall tournaments.
  • Tournaments are recruitment based to put players in front of perspective college programs

Great program with Coaches and teammates who cared about you both on and off the field. Helped me develop my skills and helped me get to a collegiate level. In my time as a player, we were able to win tournaments in both summer and fall and it was all thanks to the coaches and training of this program.

Joining NJLT has been the best decision for our son. The structured development has transformed his skills, confidence, and understanding of the game. He has grown into a more disciplined player, and his passion has never been stronger.
