Training Format:

  • Building Brick Walls:  One brick at a time.  Players will be taught the proper form and fundamentals all the way from stick, positioning, stance, goal position and movement between the pipes.
  • On and Off Field Warm Ups:  Most goalies do not get a good warm up every time they step on the field, this is imperative to their skills development, confidence in the goal and muscle memory.  NJLT Provides the format for a  successful warmup as well as warm up drills to be done when there is not enough time for a full warmup before practice or games.
  • Take Home Drills:  It is easy for field players to sharpen their skills outside of practice but goalies need to work on skills on their own as well.  Each week, players will be shown drills they can work on at home without a goal or even a lot of space.  Muscle memory and skills development are key to goalies success and there are a ton of these drills that can be done in a room at home (not all drills need a ball).
  • Challenge Drills: Seeing the ball and being in the right place is taught through the fundamentals but not every shot is easy to see and being in the right place is sometimes difficult.  NJLT trains how to stop, protect and see the most challenging shots on the field.  It takes a lot to be in the right place and at the right angle for every single shot but NJLT teaches how to get there and make the saves.

Training Format:

  • Building Brick Walls:  Goalies in this training session have a solid foundation that will need to be fine tuned heading into the spring season.  This clinic will be a build on players fundamentals in foot positioning, stance, goal position and movement between the pipes.
  • Shot Training: Reps, Reps, Reps!  With a solid fundamental base, players in Advanced goalie training will need to see as many shots as possible.  Angles, locations, speeds, and variations of shots will be important to get players prepared for the spring season.  Goalies in advanced training will see hundreds of shots every session and be coached to make the most difficult saves look easy!
  • Challenge Drills: Seeing the ball and being in the right place is taught through the fundamentals but not every shot is easy to see and being in the right place is sometimes difficult.  In advanced goalie training, players will be set up to learn the skills necessary to compete against the hardest shots to save on the field – pipe to pipe movement, bounce shots, quick sticks, inside shots and much more will be trained in this session.
  • Take Home Drills:  It is easy for field players to sharpen their skills outside of practice but goalies need to work on skills on their own as well.  Each week, players will be shown drills they can work on at home without a goal or even a lot of space.  Muscle memory and skills development are key to goalies success and drills are shown how they can be adapted to train at home with little or no assistance.

“My son has been to NJLT goalie clinics and individual training over the past few years and training he gets at NJLT is always top notch. With every session of training my son has taken with NJLT and Dennis, there has been a noticeable improvement in his skills as a goalie. Dennis is tremendous at connecting with young players and getting them to understand the concepts and techniques he is teaching them. I highly recommend NJLT camps and clinics for players looking to improve their skills in the extremely challenging position of goalie.” -Paul

“This was one of the best goalie clinics I’ve ever been too. It’s a great camp for new and experienced players and Dennis and the other coaches have helped me become such a better goalie from the moment I signed up for the camp. Even today if I have any questions or need any help with becoming a better goalie, Dennis is always there to help me out. I would highly recommend coming to this camp for kids who have a passion for lacrosse and are willing to take their skills to the next level.” -Rajiv

“Good goalie training is very difficult to find but we found it at NJLT. Dennis is an amazing goalie coach and my daughter learned a tremendous amount from him. His knowledge and love for the position had helped my daughter succeed.” -Natalie

“Best goalie training I have ever received! Helped me with my stance and form as well as areas to improve.” -Christian

“They help gave me the tool to work on drills at home and become the best goalie i can possibly be.” -Mark

“This is my favorite training! I always love going to these clinic. They help with players of all different skill levels improve in the areas they need. This will result in you become a better goalie for sure. -Alex

Will my player be prepared for the spring sesaon after attending this session?

YES!  This is a preseason development training session geared toward player development training and preseason skills training which will make the biggest impact on the players going into the spring lacrosse season!

My player attended the goalie session in the fall – should they attend this session to prepare for the spring?

YES!  Goalies can never get enough high level training, skills development, refinement, and muscle memory.  The more sessions goalies attend, the higher the confidence is going into the spring season!  A confident goalie is the best goalie to have!

My player was forced into the position last year and wants to sharpen their skills before the spring this year – should they attend?

YES!  We break down the goalies into groups and pair them with goalies in a similar experience level.  Ultimately playing the goalie position does not matter about the players skills around you but we keep our player development focused on the high level and break it down to the core essential pieces for the newer goalies!

I see that this is outside in the winter – will it be cold?

Of course it will be.  Dress warm – we recommend sweatpants and either a cold gear under your pads and/or sweatshirt over your pads.  Most players get hot and shed layers within the first 20 minutes of the session.  Competitive programs from school aged through NCAA are outside all winter playing and training.  The fields at Capelli are just about all booked for the entire winter til 10pm every night and you will see young boys and girls soccer groups on the fields (sometimes even in shorts) training and competing.  In the event of snow covered fields we have one day built into the calendar and will be able to schedule another make up date if necessary.

I am ready to book, what do I do and what happens from here?

Registration is online through the NJLT Website.  We accept all major credit cards, paypal and even Venmo!  Once registered you will receive a confirmation email that your order has gone through.  About a week prior to the first session you will receive a logistics email that will answer any last minute questions that players/parents may have.  Each week we will be given a field assignment and will announce the field location via email.

I have additional questions – who should I contact?

Reach out to our director of training Dennis Mann through either email – [email protected] – or call/text 908-445-5800
